how do i connect town forge to a daemon town forge?

You need to be running the "townforged" daemon program, which is what connects to the Townforge network and maintains the chain, etc.
Then you can run the game, the "townforge" program, which will automatically connect to the daemon. You may have to wait a bit till the daemon has finished getting all the chain data from the network.
